Liberty has added a very talented defensive back to its roster ahead of the 2024 season as former Oklahoma defensive back Damond Harmon has enrolled at Liberty and will participate in training camp with the Flames.

The 6’0”, 180 pound defensive back was a four star recruit by multiple recruiting services coming out of Highland Springs High School in Richmond, Virginia. He was ranked as the No. 207 recruit nationally in his class by Rivals and the No. 19 corner in the country. Rivals also ranked him as the No. 6 player in Virginia while 247Sports rated him as the 9th best prospect out of the Commonwealth.

He spent his first two seasons at Oklahoma, after committing to and signing with the Sooners over a finalist group that also included Georgia, Penn State, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

In 2021, Harmon played in 7 games and recorded 4 tackles while playing mainly on special teams for the Sooners. In 2022, he played in 11 games while making two starts in the defensive backfield, finishing the year with 18 tackles.

Harmon was recruited by and played for Lincoln Riley before the head coach left for USC prior to the 2022 season.

Harmon suffered a very scary injury on Oct. 1, 2022 in the fourth quarter of a game at TCU. The injury occurred as he made a tackle, leaving him motionless, requiring immobilization before he was carted off the field. He was transported to a local Fort Worth hospital where he was treated and released later that day.

He later said that he couldn’t feel the right side of his body as he was being transported to the hospital. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the feeling in all of his extremities returned.

Harmon’s injury was later described as a bad stinger and a concussion. He was fully cleared to return to the field and did so later in the 2022 season, getting reps at both safety and corner.

He would enter the transfer portal in April of 2023, originally committing to North Carolina A&T. He would not see the field at the FCS program in 2023, apparently due to an academic issue. Harmon ended up spending the 2023-24 academic year at a community college before transferring to Liberty.

In high school, Harmon earned first-team all-Metro honors as a senior when he recorded 20 tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles as the Springers notched five shutouts and allowed just 4.4 points per game. He would help lead Highland Springs to a 9-1 record and state runner up finish.

Harmon provides tremendous upside on the back end of Liberty’s defense where he can compete this training camp for playing time.
