Former Texas A&M quarterback Jaylen Henderson took a visit to Liberty this past week, he announced on his social media channels. The talented prospect has two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6’3″, 220-pound quarterback is originally from West Hills, California where he was a three-star prospect out of high school. Henderson played sparingly for two seasons at Fresno State, appearing in five games, before announcing he would enter the transfer portal. About one month later, he announced his transfer to Texas A&M.

Henderson entered the 2023 season as the third string quarterback behind Conner Weigman and Max Johnson. Following injuries to both of them, Henderson was named the team’s starting quarterback against Mississippi State.

In his first career start, Henderson had four total touchdowns, two passing and two rushing, while leading Texas A&M in a 51-10 rout. The following week against Abilene Christian, he passed for 260 yards and two touchdowns. In his first career start on the road against No. 14 LSU, Henderson passed for 294 yards and 2 touchdowns in a loss.

Henderson would start the 2023 Texas Bowl, his fourth consecutive start, where he suffered an injury on the first play from scrimmage, landing awkwardly on his right arm. He exited the field with a brace over his arm and was replaced by true freshman Marcel Reed. His injury would require surgery. In 2024, Henderson would serve as the backup to Weigman and Reed.

He threw for 715 yards and 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions with 2 rushing touchdowns in 2023 for the Aggies. He completed 53 of 78 passes on the season while also rushing 41 times for 104  yards. He had at least 12 rushing attempts in all three games he started and played the complete game.

Liberty is looking for its next quarterback following the departure of Kaidon Salter who is currently in the portal. The Flames have Ryan Burger and Jayden Bradford on the roster who are both expected to play in the upcoming Bahamas Bowl and will be looking to compete for the starting job in 2025.
