Liberty has picked up a commitment from Casey Cain, a transfer wide receiver from Texas and UNLV.
Cain is a 6’3″, 200 pound receiver originally from New Orleans. He began his collegiate career at Texas where he played in 22 games with 3 starts over 3 seasons for the Longhorns. After redshirting in 2021, Cain had 8 receptions for 201 yards as a redshirt-freshman in 2022. He posted four catches for a career-high 108 yards that season in the Alamo Bowl against Washington. In 2023, Cain had one reception for 13 yards at Texas before entering the portal and landing at UNLV. This past season for the Rebels, Cain had 7 receptions for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns while playing in 12 games and starting 5.
Coming out of high school, Cain was ranked No. 129 among wide receivers and No. 24 in the state of Louisiana by 247Sports. He chose Texas over numerous offers including programs like Houston, Virginia, Memphis, Vanderbilt, Louisiana, South Alabama, and Tulane.
He transferred to UNLV and was reunited with UNLV offensive coordinator Brennan Marion who coached receivers at Texas in 2022. Cain and UNLV made it to the Mountain West Championship against Boise State looking for a spot in the CFP before falling short against the Broncos. UNLV would bounce back with a win over California in the LA Bowl.
Since entering the portal, Cain has picked up offers from Texas State, Tulane, Western Kentucky, and Appalachian State. Liberty offered him December 28.
Wide receiver is certainly a position of need for the Flames for 2025. Liberty struggled to find consistency at the position in 2024 while several of the team’s top players at the position struggled to stay healthy. Cain will be able to help provide depth and could also grow into the big body target the team needs.
