Offense: B
It looked like Liberty’s offense played down to their competition a little bit. They put up decent numbers, overall, outgaining the Keydets 377 to 204, but the fact that they only made it into the endzone twice is disconcerting. Still, Darrin Peterson had another big game and Josh Woodrum continued to show his ability to run the ball.
The Flames’ defense made their offense’s 17-point effort look more like 34 points. VMI couldn’t do anything offensively, their only score coming when it was too late. They put great pressure on VMI quarterback A. J. Augustine, sacking him 4 times and forcing 3 interceptions.
Special Teams: C
John Lunsford had another bad game, missing three field goals. Sure, one was a 56-yard attempt, but the other two were very makeable. The return game was not really a factor for either team.
Overall: B
The offense took care of their business, putting enough points on the board to make the missed field goals irrelevant. The defense was the star of the game, as usual. If Liberty is going to win out, they are going to have to ride their defense. Also, they’ve got to figure out a way to shore up their kicking game.
