It is official now, the Flames are headed to the Boca Raton Bowl to take on Toledo on Tuesday, December 20. The Flames opened as a 4.5 point underdog against the MAC Champions. Liberty’s 2022 schedule ended up featuring seven teams that advanced to a bowl game.
The Flames finished the regular season with a 4-3 record against those bowl teams. Liberty defeated Arkansas, Southern Miss, BYU, and UAB while losing to New Mexico State, Wake Forest, and UConn.
Here’s a look at where those seven teams will be playing this bowl season:
- Arkansas (6-6) is headed to the Liberty Bowl to play Kansas on Dec. 28
- New Mexico State (6-6) will play Bowling Green in the Quick Lane Bowl on Dec. 26
- Wake Forest (7-5) will play Missouri in the Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 23
- UConn (6-6) will play Marshall in the Myrtle Beach Bowl on Dec. 19
- Southern Miss (6-6) will play Rice in the LendingTree Bowl on Dec. 17
- BYU (7-5) will play SMU in the New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 17
- UAB (6-6) will play Miami Ohio in the Bahamas Bowl on Dec. 16
The seven bowl teams faced in one regular season ties for the most played in one year. Last year, the Flames were also 4-3 against bowl teams. In 2020, Liberty was 1-1 against bowl teams, and in the Flames’ first season as a full FBS member in 2019, Liberty played four bowl teams (Louisiana, Buffalo, BYU, and Virginia), going 1-3 in those games. In 2018, the Flames were 1-4 against bowl teams. Liberty is now 11-14 against bowl teams with 2022 being the second straight season the Flames posted a winning record in those games.
