Guess who got approved to do another blog!? That’s right I am back! Now, I’m not totally sure how this happened. No one told me if last week’s blog did digits or if it flopped. I’m either a Make-a-Wish blogger and Jon is afraid to tell me, or I brought in eyeballs like never before and no one wants to inflate my ego any more than it already has in the last three months. Either way, I’m here for the bye week ready to entertain and maybe give out a winner (probably only one let’s be honest).
(Hit it! Replace the word dance, with the word blog)
Last Week: 3-1-1 or 2-2-1
Overall: 19-21 (I don’t count ties because I’m not from Europe)
I obviously lost the game last Thursday night but that’s on me for trying to gamble while blogging it up. Never again. I’m writing this on a Wednesday night while I watch the Knicks. Luckily, the rest of last weekend was pretty good. Wake won in a runaway, TCU-KSU was well over, and well, then there was the Liberty game.
I know I said BYU was gonna win yadda yadda yadda. If you’ve been paying attention you would know I don’t know anything about how to bet on Liberty. I haven’t been this confused about anything since Earth Science 220 with (REDACTED) who was a (REMOVED BY CHAD).
Blog Within a Blog: How I passed Earth Science 220
It was the spring semester of 2011 and I was on the cusp of failing Earth Science. It legit all came down to the final exam. I had done everything short of bribing the professor and, even though I was a Dean’s List (thrice nbd) student, this class and I just didn’t connect. However, there was a path to a D.
If you donated ten pounds of cans to the local recycling center and gave the professor the cash you got a whole three points added to your final grade. Now, because I was a good student, I never thought I would need this so I wasn’t collecting cans. But there I was, two days before the finals, with zero pounds of cans. I wasn’t the only one in this boat so I assembled a team to do the unthinkable; we broke into the recycling center at 2 am on a Saturday and stole ten pounds of cans. We dressed in all black and hopped a bunch of fences with like ten trash bags, got in, loaded up the cans, and ran out of there like I was Sirchauncey Holloway. I prayed I had enough cans and thankfully I did. I bombed the final and ended up with a 68% final grade and the three extra points took me to a passing 71%.
Back to Liberty-BYU. Two hours before the game, two people who I trust and who are smarter than me told me they had made a heavy investment on the Flames. I canceled my bet and put a healthy wager on the Flames ML +225. It obviously was an easy win and because I won a bunch of money I’m counting it as a win. I promise I won’t change my Liberty pick this week (*wink*)
This week: Bye Week!
What a great time for a bye week. Coming off one of the biggest wins in school history (CCU Bowl win was bigger don’t @ me) and a massive game against Arkansas looming, this is the perfect time to unwind and relax. Since I have no Liberty game to break down in detail I figured I would give out the Richie Longshots’ recipe for how to spend the bye week!
Now, if you’re one of those people who only watch CFB if Liberty is playing I honestly feel sorry for you. College Football Saturdays are one of the greatest things in sports. Learning more about other programs and schools will do wonders for your general fandom, and with us moving to CUSA next year it’s a great chance to learn about our future conference mates. Plus, you can tune into the games featuring teams ranked 20-25 and root against them so we can get ranked! Let’s get into it!
The Perfect Bye Week with Richie Longshots
Now ideally we open our eyes Saturday morning already 1-0, and that’s because NC State just beat VT on Thursday night by more than 13 points. Why? It’s at NCST and I think Tech has given up. Plus NC State is 2-2 at home ATS while Tech is 0-3 away ATS. Onto Saturday.
(I’m going to assume most people reading this are married because you went to LU and probably got married at 20. If you’re an LU student just do your homework so you don’t have to steal cans as I did).
7:00am: Wake up and immediately get to work on doing chores around the house. Leave no stone unturned. Bathroom, living room, windows, anything. Your goal is to watch football from noon to midnight and then watch the Hawaii and Wyoming kick-off. In order to make that happen it starts off by making the wife happy.
8:00am: Begin getting together Breakfast. Whether that’s you cooking or ordering take out, get breakfast for the family. If you’re worried about money just fade my picks and it’ll pay for itself.
9:00am: You should be finishing breakfast. It’s super important to mention everything that you did. It doesn’t hurt to make some things up to make it sound like you did a bunch. “I rotated all of the knobs on the drawers in the kitchen” or “I flipped all of the plugs in the sockets to help with the currents.” Take a post-breakfast tums.
9:30am: Daily devotional/exercise. Maybe a little walk outdoors, watch an old convo. Whatever you gotta do to get your mind right. Self-care is health care. (or just turn on Gameday)
10:00am: Two options, turn on Gameday or flip on some EPL. The World Cup is starting soon and you might as well jump o the soccer bandwagon now. There are a bunch of 10am games that if you want to indulge this is a great time.
11:00am: We’re an hour away from game time. Start to get your TV situation in check. If you only have one TV, I’m sorry. I run five deep on Saturdays and I take note cards and map out the schedule for each TV. There are some great breakdowns for what game is on what channel that you can find on Twitter. I’ll retweet one of them Saturday morning if I remember. You also wanna start firing off your bets (if you’re into that kind of thing) so you’re good to go for noon kick.
Noon: Kickoff time! Games are starting and the day can finally begin. I don’t like any of the Noon games so I’ll be watching PSU/OSU, Cuse/ND, TCU/WVU (rat line TCU -7), and Auburn/Arkansas (scouting in case HCHF needs me).
1:00pm: Start to think about lunch. Doordash is ideal. Wings and Dr. Pepper are preferred. Pop another tums.
2:00pm: Noon games should be back from half. Turn off the Cuse/ND game because we got our first pick of the day!
Charlotte +17 against Rice
I like an interim head coach, I LOVE it when the interim head coach is the offensive line coach and this is what we got this Saturday. They’ll be fired up and at least try and keep it close
3:30pm: Noon games are ending and the Charlotte game is at the half. A couple of good games coming up here but from a betting spot, I’m looking to jump back on Wake. Again, I think they’re a great team and I think this is rat line at -3.5. UL’s last four they’ve played an underwhelming Pitt team at home, UVA, BC, and USF. That’s nowhere near Wake’s weight class and I don’t see how they win by less than a TD. Other games I’m going to watch: Oregon/Cal, UF/UGA, OKST/KSU.
Wake -3.5 against Louisville
5ishpm: Nap time. Start your nap at halftime of the 3:30 games and trust your body to wake up at the start of the fourth quarter of these games. This will get you through the Hawaii game without any issues.
6:00pm: Call your local Pizza place and order whatever the family wants. Tip the kid well for maximum Karma.
7:00pm: Enjoy your pizza and enjoy the nightcap of games. Obviously, UT/UK is the main showing but there are others I like as well. UM/MSU, Ole Miss/TAMU, and CCU/Marshall will all find their way onto the TV. Tums time.
8:00pm: The late game I like wagering-wise is UNC-3 against Pitt. The home team has won the last five matchups and the Tar Heels control their own destiny when it comes to playing in the ACC Championship game.
UNC -3 against Pitt
9:00pm: Tuck the kids in and remind the wife about everything you did in the morning and all the meals you’ve provided for the family. It was all worth it because you got to watch football for nine straight hours. No time to quit now, this is where the true fans find their keep. There are some decent games on late once the primetime games comes to a close.
Midnight: It’s now Sunday on the east coast but in Hawaii it’s gameday. I have no idea about Hawaii or Wyoming but I know that I’m going to get one more bet in before I fall asleep. No need to stay awake.
Hawaii/Wyoming 1Q Over 10.5
Go to sleep after that cashes and know that you survived bye week. In less than seven days we’ll be back on the big screen taking on Arkansas with hopefully a number next to our name. As always, bet responsibly if you are inclined to wager. See you back on the pod next Tuesday!
