True freshman guard Jay Barber has decided “to take a permanent leave from the program” as announced by the men’s basketball team. Barber plans to continue his education at Liberty, but will not be a part of the basketball team.
“I want to support whatever it is that Jay decides that is best for himself and his pursuits,” head coach Ritchie McKay said in a school release. “I have known Jay since he was eight years old and I believe in him and I am thankful for our time together! We are definitely looking forward to seeing what God does in and through him.”
Jay is the son of former Liberty Athletic Director Jeff Barber who resigned in November 2016, just one week after Jay signed his National Letter of Intent to play for Coach McKay and the Flames.
Barber scored over 1,000 career points at LCA where he was a first-team all-conference performer. He made 45.8% from 3 point range during his sophomore season, one of the best marks in the nation.
