Liberty commit Brian Merritt has announced that he has decommitted from Liberty, according to his twitter profile.
Merritt was a JUCO defensive tackle prospect from Gulf Coast Community College. He has been recruited by Hugh Freeze and the Flames’ coaching staff since December 2018 when the staff was hired. Out of high school, he signed with Florida Atlantic but ended up going the JUCO route.
The 6’1″, 290 pound athlete played in 12 games this past season, recording 39 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks. He also has offers from Houston, Troy, UTSA, and South Alabama.
Merritt graduated from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia. He had more than a dozen offers out of high school including Georgia State, FAU, MTSU, Pitt, South Alabama, West Virginia, Tulane, and UAB.
Thanks to everyone who’s supported me but after long talks and consideration with my family I have decided to reopen my recruitment and decommitt from the university of Liberty. Nothing personal just business @JUCOFFrenzy @JuCoFootballACE @LibertyFootball @BrettSShufelt
