The Liberty Lady Flames have opened the season with a 4-3 record. Liberty posted a split in their two games this past week as they look to hold strong at home this coming week. Here’s a recap of the team’s recent action:
L, 79-50 @ Grand Canyon, Nov. 27
Liberty posted its first ever loss to a WAC opponent, having won the previous six matchups. The Lady Flames committed a season high 27 turnovers while setting season lows for points, three pointers, and three point field goal percentage. The preseason WAC favorite Grand Canyon improved to 3-2 on the season behind an impressive showing from Trinity San Antonio with 21 points, 17 assists, and 6 steals.
W, 106-58 vs Christopher Newport, Nov. 30
Just a few days after a poor offensive showing, Liberty erupted for 106 points, setting a new Liberty Arena women’s basketball single game scoring record. The Lady Flames shattered the previous mark of 91 points. Six Lady Flames scored in double figures. Christopher Newport is ranked in the top 10 of the Division III and entered the contest unbeaten at 7-0. Bella Smuda had 19 points and 9 rebounds while Emily Howard posted 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
