The Liberty Lady Flames took care of business at home against FIU on Saturday afternoon for Alumni Day, winning the team’s fifth game in a row to remain in a first-place tie with Middle Tennessee. Liberty improved to 13-5 on the season and 6-1 in CUSA action.

The Lady Flames shot 58.9% from the field in a dominating win over the visiting Panthers on Saturday afternoon. Emma Hess paced four Lady Flames in double figures with 16 while Liberty’s bench outscored FIU’s reserves, 42-10. FIU used a 14-2 run to take a 14-9 lead in the first quarter, but Liberty would respond with a 7-0 run to take the lead and jumpstart the dominating performance. In the second quarter, Liberty outscored FIU, 29-13, paced by 18 bench points in the period.
Avery Mills added 14 points while Asian Boone and Pien Steenbergen each scored 10. Bella Smuda added 8 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 3 steals. Saturday’s Alumni Day also served as a celebration of 50 years of Liberty women’s basketball and the 20th anniversary of Liberty’s NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 run in 2005.
