The Liberty Lady Flames have opened the season with a 3-4 record and ended a three-game losing streak on Sunday with a win at Radford. Here’s a recap of the first few weeks of the season:
L, 69-48 vs Richmond, Nov. 7
A 15-0 second quarter run helped Richmond take control of the season opener at Liberty Arena. The Lady Flames were held scoreless for 6:15 as part of that run that allowed the Spiders to take control of the game.
W, 69-41 vs Salem, Nov. 10
Mya Berkman needed only 19 minutes to record a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Her efforts helped the Lady Flames control the paint in their first win of the season.
W, 79-48 vs Norfolk State, Nov. 17
Sophomore Emma Hess set career highs for three-pointers (5) and points (17), sparking Liberty to a second straight win. Hampton was held to just 32.7% shooting on the night.
L, 67-63 @ JMU, Nov. 23
Kiki Jefferson scored 12 of her game high 20 points during the fourth quarter, including a 10-for-10 effort from the foul line to help the Dukes hold off the surging Flames.
L, 72-64 vs East Carolina, Nov. 26 (Cavalier Classic)
Rebounding and free throw shooting helped East Carolina to the win on the first day of the Cavalier Classic at John Paul Jones Arena. The Pirates made 19 more free throws than the Lady Flames, going 27 of 38 at the line and became the first team in more than a year to outrebound Liberty.
L, 77-65 vs Minnesota, Nov. 27 (Cavalier Classic)
Mya Berkman tallied a career high 26 points to become the 20th member of the Lady Flames’ 1,000 point club. However, it was not enough as Minnesota put a damper on her celebration
W, 67-54 @ Radford, Dec. 4
Balanced scoring and a strong defensive effort led Liberty to its first road win of the season. Three Lady Flames scored in double figures and Liberty forced 19 turnovers inside the Dedmon Center.
