The Lady Flames were picked to finish 2nd in the ASUN to start the season behind Florida Gulf Coast (FGCU). Currently the Flames are 3-6 on the season and have yet to start conference play.
Liberty’s three wins have been against East Carolina, Norfolk State, and Miami (Ohio), and six losses were to Virginia Tech, East Tennessee State, Chattanooga, James Madison, UNC Greensboro, and Oregon State. The Beavers are ranked 5th and the Flames played them really well. Liberty was winning at half 30-25 before ultimately losing 68-55.
The Lady Flames’ first conference game will be on Jan. 4, when Liberty will travel to NJIT. On Jan. 6 the Lady Flames will travel to preseason favorite FGCU .
Liberty had two players picked preseason to make the ASUN all-conference teams. Keyen Green and Bridgette Rettstatt.
Green (SO), is leading the Flames in scoring (11.2) for the second straight season and rebounds (7.0). Along with Keyen, two other Flames are averaging double figures, Emily Lytle and Ashtyn Baker.
Rettstatt, has started the season a little slow from the scoring stand point. Do not be surprised if she finishes strong though. Last year, she scored double figures in 12-of-16 conference games.
Just like with the men, in order to make the Big Dance, the Lady Flames will need to win the ASUN conference tournament.
