The Liberty Lady Flames picked up wins at home over Sam Houston and Louisiana Tech last week in conference games. The Lady Flames are 10-5 on the season and 3-1 in CUSA play as the team prepares to hit the road once again this week. Here’s a recap of the team’s recent action:

W, 69-54 vs Sam Houston, Jan. 9

Liberty used a big third quarter to create some separation in the team’s CUSA home opener. Emma Hess led the way with 19 points and 7 rebounds while fellow senior Bell Smuda added 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks. The Lady Flames won the rebounding battle (42-31) and scored 52 points in the paint to offset a cold shooting night from three (4/18 for 22.2%). The Bearkats were held to 36.1% shooting while only attempting 8 three pointers. Sam Houston took a lead at 33-32 with 7:01 left in the third period before Hess knocked down back-to-back triples to ignite a 12-0 Liberty run over the next three minutes.

W, 75-64 vs Louisiana Tech, Jan. 11

The Lady Flames made 11 three-pointers, with six of them coming in the first quarter to help Liberty lead wire to wire over Louisiana Tech on Saturday at Liberty Arena. It marks Liberty’s sixth straight home victory while all 11 Liberty players found the scoring column. Asia Boone had 13 points, the only player to reach double figures for the home team. Liberty led 26-11 at the end of the first period and would not see its lead cut closer than 9 points the rest of the way.
