The Liberty Lady Flames posted a perfect 2-0 week with wins at Liberty Arena over North Carolina A&T and Randolph to improve to 6-3 on the season. Here’s a recap of the team’s recent action:
W, 56-51 vs North Carolina A&T, Dec. 7
Trailing North Carolina A&T by eight points midway through the second quarter, Liberty responded with a 14-0. That surge put the Lady Flames on top in a hard-fought victory over the CAA preseason favorite Aggies. Liberty forced 20 turnovers and held North Carolina A&T to 34% from the field. Asia Boone led the way with 14 points while Bella Smuda added 10 points and 6 rebounds.
W, 109-26 vs Randolph, Dec. 11
Making her college debut, Liberty freshman center Emmy Stout paced all players with 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 steals. Her big night helped the Flames set a Liberty Arena single game scoring record and knock down a program single game record 15 three pointers. Stouts’ 23 points were the most by a Liberty freshman in her first game since Devon Brown scored 26 in the 2009-10 opener. Her 16 rebounds were the most by a Lady Flames freshman making her debut since Cheri Yates also pulled down 16 boards during Liberty’s first ever game as a Division I program in 1988-89. She is also the first Liberty freshman to begin her career with a double-double since Megan Frazee did so in 2005-06.
