The Liberty Lady Flames split its two games this past week, moving its record to 7-13 overall and 2-3 in Conference USA play. Here’s a recap from the last couple of weeks as well as a look at this week’s schedule:
L, 70-59 @ FIU, Jan. 18
CUSA-leading FIU outscored Liberty 21-8 during the second quarter of Thursday evening’s matchup, giving the Panthers a lead they did not relinquish. FIU went on to post a 70-59 victory over the Lady Flames at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center, remaining unbeaten in conference play.
Asia Boone’s 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals weren’t enough for the Lady Flames who had 22 turnovers and surrendered 18 offensive rebounds to the Panthers. The win was FIU’s 7th straight. The Panthers enjoyed significant advantages in rebounds (44-34), points in the paint (34-22), second-chance points (20-7), fast break points (17-4) and bench points (35-6).
W, 84-77 @ Sam Houston, Jan. 20
Career-high scoring efforts by Emma Hess (30 points) and Emily Howard (14 points) helped Liberty hold off Sam Houston, 84-77, for its first-ever CUSA road victory, Saturday afternoon at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum. Liberty matched its highest point total of the season to snap a six-game road losing streak. Hess posted the Lady Flames’ first 30-point game since Dec. 6, 2020 (Emily Lytle – 30 points at Memphis). Sam Houston (5-11, 0-4 CUSA) is still in search of its inaugural CUSA triumph after suffering its eighth consecutive setback. The Bearkats gave up a season-high 48 points in the paint during their first-ever matchup with Liberty.
