Liberty has flipped College of Charleston commit Ben Southerland, as the 6’7″ forward has now pledged to Liberty and head coach Ritchie McKay. Southerland had committed to Charleston and their new head coach Pat Kelsey, former of Winthrop, last month.
The Cincinnati, Ohio prospect that attends Sycamore High School is rated as a three-star prospect according to 247Sports. He has over a dozen Division I offers including Illinois State, Marshall, Tulsa, Iona, Belmont, Wright State, Akron, Stetson, Ohio, Toledo, College of Charleston, Winthrop, and Miami (OH). He took an official visit to Liberty at the end of July and also took official visits to Belmont and Charleston.
Southerland joins 6’8″ forward Zach Cleveland in the Class of 2022. The Flames also picked up a commitment from point guard Colin Porter, a Class of 2023 prospect, just last week.
