Following a visit to campus, Liberty has added a commitment from running back Billy Lucas, a transfer from Duquesne.
The 6’0″, 205 pound Lucas has received offers from Liberty, Eastern Michigan, and several FCS schools since entering the portal. He has two years of eligibility remaining. In his three seasons at Duquesne, Lucas rushed for 1,788 yards and 13 touchdowns including 792 yards and 5 scores in 2022. He also had 12 receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown in 2022.
Lucas was twice an all-conference member and was named conference rookie of the year following his freshman campaign. He is the second running back transfer to commit to the Flames this week, joining Colorado transfer Victor Venn.
He will step into a running back room that has lost Shedro Louis and Dae Dae Hunter to the transfer portal as well as the graduation of TJ Green. The Flames have sought to bring in an infusion of talent to the position since the end of the 2022 season. Transfers Quinton Cooley and James Jointer joined the team prior to the spring as did true freshman Vaughn Blue.
