The day after the Early Signing Period opened, Liberty has added a graduate transfer quarterback bringing the total scholarship athletes that have signed for the Class of 2020 to 20.
Maine transfer Chris Ferguson has signed with the Flames. He will be immediately eligible and have one season of eligibility remaining.
The 6’3″, 235 quarterback won the starting job at Maine as a redshirt-freshman and as a sophomore led Maine to a 10-4 record and a spot in the national semifinals. He suffered a season-ending foot injury in the sixth game of the 2019 season and did not play against Liberty.
Ferguson’s sister, Danielle Gillen is Liberty’s Director of Sports Nutrition. He will graduate in December with a degree in Business Management with a minor in Leadership Studies.
Ferguson joins a Liberty room that is headlined by Auburn transfer Malik Willis and Johnathan Bennett as the Flames look to replace 4-year starter Buckshot Calvert. After transferring from Auburn and sitting out the 2019 season, Willis will be eligible in 2020 and 2021. Bennett, a true freshman in 2019, suffered a season-ending knee injury. He will be a redshirt-freshman in 2020 and is expected to be ready to compete in spring practice.
