Liberty has added a transfer in kicker Brenton King from Georgia Tech, he announced on twitter.
King is expected to graduate this summer and can transition to Liberty as a grad transfer enabling him to play immediately. He has two season of eligibility remaining. As a freshman in 2017, King was 5-for-6 on field goal attempts and 15-for-16 on extra points while averaging 59.3 yards on kickoffs. In 2018 he redshirted after seeing action in the first four games of the season.
As a sophomore and junior, he was 4-for-11 on field goals and 27-for-28 on extra points while averaging 52.9 yards on kickoffs.
King will fight for playing time immediately following the departure of Alex Probert who transferred to Iowa State this spring. The Flames have also added Alex Barbir, who began his career at Penn State, and Jason Stricker is a redshirt-freshman.
The 6’0″, 170 pound King was a MaxPreps.com All-American as a junior at Mill Creek High School in Auburn, Georgia. He was a 3-star rated prospect by ESPN and the No. 19 ranked kicker by 247Sports in his class.
Excited for this new chapter in my life. Can’t wait to be back on the field. Thank you @CoachTBurns for believing in me and giving me a chance to play the sport I love still. Go Flames 🏈#37 pic.twitter.com/pt5nINRdwU
