Liberty has added UMass to the 2020 schedule as the Flames and Minutemen will play at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia on Friday, Nov. 27 at noon on ESPN3. Liberty now has 11 scheduled games for the 2020 season.

Additionally, Liberty’s game against Western Carolina on Nov. 14, originally scheduled for 1 p.m., will be played at noon. The game is still scheduled for Nov. 14 and to be televised on ESPN3.

This game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 28 before UMass canceled their 2020 fall football season amid COVID-19 concerns. The Minutemen have since announced a return to play this fall, and they began their season this past Saturday at Georgia Southern. UMass lost that game 41-0.

“We are excited to confirm the game with UMass on Friday of Thanksgiving weekend,” Liberty AD Ian McCaw said in a school release. “With the uncertainty of 2020 and the team’s success this season, we want to provide our student-athletes with as many opportunities to compete as possible.”

UMass currently has a game scheduled for Nov. 7 at Marshall, and has also added another game this season as the Minutemen are scheduled to play Florida Atlantic on Nov. 21.

The Flames and Minutemen, both FBS Independents, have become frequent opponents on each other’s schedules. The series between the two programs is tied at 1 game a piece, with UMass winning Nov. 3, 2018, 62-59, and Liberty getting revenge on Nov. 2, 2019, 63-21. Both of those previous games were played in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Liberty is currently 5-0 on the season and is scheduled to play Southern Miss this coming Saturday at Williams Stadium.
