Liberty is listed among others receiving votes in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 Poll which was released on Monday.
The Flames received 32 votes and are just 6 spots out of the Top 25 poll entering the 2024 season, effectively ranked No. 31.
This is only the second time in program history Liberty has received votes in the preseason AP Top 25 poll. In the 2021 preseason poll, the Flames were ranked No. 29 with 36 votes.
The Flames are the only Conference USA team to receive any votes in the poll. One Liberty opponent for this season received votes, Appalachian State, who picked up 4 votes. The Flames and Mountaineers meet on Sept. 28 in Boone, North Carolina.
Liberty is the second highest ranked Group of Five team, checking in behind Boise State who is ranked 28th with 47 votes. Other G5 teams receiving votes include Memphis (16), UTSA (6), and Tulane (5).
Liberty finished the 2023 season ranked No. 25 in the final AP Top 25 poll, following the conclusion of a 13-1 campaign for the CUSA Champions. It marked just the second time the program had ever finished a season ranked in the AP Top 25 poll; the Flames were ranked No. 17 following the 2020 season which the team posted a 10-1 final record. The Flames were ranked in the AP poll for the final six weeks of the 2023 season.
Liberty will open the season at home on August 30 against Campbell. Kickoff from Williams Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
