Liberty has released the 2020 and 2021 football schedules as the Flames continue to move forward as an FBS Independent member.
The Flames will open the 2020 season on September 5th at Virginia Tech, and the home portion of its season on September 12th against FCS member North Carolina A&T. The rest of the home schedule includes a visit from Florida International University (Sept 26), Louisiana-Monroe (Oct 10), Southern Miss (Oct 24), FCS Western Carolina (Nov 14), and the season finale on November 28th against UMass.
In addition to its trip to Blacksburg in 2020, the Flames will also travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to face Middle Tennessee State on September 19th. Additional road games in 2020 are at Bowling Green (Oct 3), at Syracuse (Oct 17), at Virginia (Nov 7), and at NC State (Nov 21).
In 2021, Liberty will open the season on September 4th against new Big South Football member Campbell. On September 18th the Flames will welcome in-state rival Old Dominion. The rest of the home slate includes Middle Tennessee State on October 9th, UMass on November 6th, and back-to-back home games to close out the regular season against Louisiana Lafayette on November 20th and Army on November 27th.
The Flames will have 6 road contests in 2021, beginning on September 11th at Troy. Liberty will play in the Carrier Dome on September 25th against Syracuse. The rest of the road schedule features matchups with UAB (Oct 2), Louisiana-Monroe (Oct 16), and Ole Miss (Nov 13).
Most of these games had been previously announced with the exception of the FCS games in 2020 against North Carolina A&T and Western Carolina. The Louisiana-Monroe and Middle Tennessee games are new home-and-home series. The home game against FIU is also a newly announced game, with no additional game against the Panthers known at this time.
