Liberty has announced future football games against Bowling Green, Marshall, NC State, Southern Miss, Troy, UAB and UMass. A total of 13 game dates were announced, including 4 previous dates which had been previously reported.
Liberty and Bowling Green will play a home and home series with the Flames and Falcons meeting in Ohio on October 3, 2020 and in Lynchburg on September 2, 2023. Liberty has faced the current MAC member once, losing 62-3 in 2003.
The Marshall Thundering Herd will host Liberty on October 14, 2023, and make the return trip to Lynchburg on October 5, 2024. Liberty will pay Marshall a guarantee of $500,000 for the Herd’s trip to Lynchburg, while the Flames will not receive a guarantee for the trip to Huntington, according to Marshall’s official release on the series. Marshall and Liberty have also faced each other just once on the gridiron previously, with the Flames losing 63-3 in 1999.
The Flames and Wolfpack will meet in Raleigh on November 21, 2020. Liberty and NC State have met once previously on the gridiron, in 2011, when the Wolfpack defeated the Flames, 43-21. With this game, Liberty now has 22 games scheduled with ACC opponents from 2018 through 2030, and 19 of those games are against teams within 140 miles of Lynchburg.
Liberty and Southern Miss have a greed to a home and home series beginning in Lynchburg on October 24, 2020. The Flames will make the return trip to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to face the Conference USA school on September 3, 2022. The two teams have never met before.
UAB will host the Flames on October 2, 2021 and face off against Liberty in Lynchburg on September 10, 2022. These will be the first ever meetings between LU and the Conference USA member.
Liberty also announced future dates of a game at Troy (9/11/21) and 3 games against UMass (11/2/19 at UMass, 11/28/20 and 11/6/21 at Liberty). These games have already been reported.
With these announced games, we now know 7 games for the 2020 slate, 8 for 2021, 6 for 2022, and 3 for 2023. Athletic Director Ian McCaw states that Liberty is close to completing schedules for the first 5 seasons of FBS football. All future schedules can be accessed at the link below.
