Liberty and Old Dominion have announced an additional game which will be played on October 7th, 2023 in Lynchburg. Old Dominion’s release states that Liberty will pay the Monarchs an $800,000 guarantee.
The Flames and Monarchs previously announced three games which began in the season opener for both teams in 2018 when Liberty thumped ODU, 52-10, in the Flames’ first ever game as an FBS member. The two in-state rivals are also scheduled to play September 18th, 2021 in Lynchburg and October 1st, 2022 in Norfolk. Liberty and Old Dominion are two of four FBS teams that call Virginia home.
With the addition of this game, Liberty now has 9 games scheduled for the 2023 season. The Flames will open the season at home against Bowling Green before travelling to Coastal Carolina and Buffalo. On September 23rd Liberty return home to face Eastern Michigan. The ODU date is sandwiched between two other road games, with Liberty facing Miami Ohio on September 30th and Marshall on October 14th. The Flames are also scheduled to face fellow FBS Independents UMass in Lynchburg (10/21) and New Mexico State in Las Cruces (11/25).
