Update 9/27 noon: According to sources, Liberty tried for the past several days to work with Appalachian State to get the game moved to a different location, even offering to pay for the Mountaineers’ travel expenses. Unfortunately, the details could not be finalized and the game was ultimately cancelled.

Both teams have the same open date, on October 19, and we are hearing the Flames are open to rescheduling the game then. However, Appalachian State’s official release stated the game was cancelled and it would not be rescheduled. Liberty’s release did not include that the game would not be rescheduled.

Liberty AD Ian McCaw has reportedly spoken with Brett McMurphy, stating the Flames are actively looking to find a 12th game to replace this canceled contest.

Liberty’s game at Appalachian State has been canceled due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene, both teams have announced.

The Flames and Mountaineers were scheduled to face off in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 in Boone, North Carolina. Like much of the Southeastern United States, Boone and the surrounding areas got record amounts of rainfall in a short period of time over Thursday and into the day Friday. Flooding is a serious issue in the area as are mudslides.

According to Appalachian State’s release, the game will not be rescheduled.

Liberty will return to action on Tuesday, October 8 against FIU. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia.
