Liberty vs Sam Houston History
Liberty now leads the series, 2-1, after winning the first meeting between the two teams since 2013 earlier this season. The Flames won, 82-66, on Jan. 20 at Liberty Arena in Lynchburg, Virginia to hand the Bearkats their first loss of the season in CUSA play.
Liberty vs Sam Houston Storylines
FLAMES LOOK TO KEEP WIN STREAK ALIVE
Liberty has put together its first three-game win streak over Division I opponents since the season opening 6-0 start. Since that time, the Flames have struggled to string together multiple wins in a row as the competition increased and the team got into conference play.
Starting 0-3 and 2-5 in Conference USA, the Flames put themselves in a tough position in terms of the conference standings. Winning three straight and with as much parity as there is in the league, Liberty is within striking distance of even the top spot in the conference. Of course to do that, the team must do a lot of winning down the stretch, beginning Saturday night at Sam Houston.
LIBERTY LOOKING FOR SEASON SWEEP OF SAM HOUSTON
The Flames and Bearkats met back on Jan. 20 at Liberty Arena with Liberty picking up the 82-66 win to hand Sam Houston its first setback in conference play to that point in the season. Four players led the Flames in scoring with Kyle Rode (19), Kaden Metheny (17), Zach Cleveland (14), and Colin Porter (12) all reaching double figures. Lamar Wilkerson scored 23 points in the loss for Sam Houston, making 11 of 16 field goals and Davon Barnes also reached 19 points on 7 of 14 shooting.
BACK ON THE ROAD
Liberty hits the road once again after two straight home contests. Of course, the Flames picked up its first win in conference play on the road in its last trip at UTEP on Feb. 3. Sam Houston is currently 5-0 on its home floor in conference play and 9-2 at home overall this season.
