Checking in at #10 in our inaugural Liberty Athletics Year in Review is Liberty Volleyball’s 2012 season.
Liberty’s Volleyball team won its 7th Big South Conference Title in program history. This was the team’s second consecutive conference championship, and fourth in the last six years. The Lady Flames defeated Coastal Carolina in the Conference Championship game on November 18, 2012.
Head Volleyball Coach Shane Pinder has guided the Lady Flames since the 2004 season. Under his reign, Liberty has won the Big South Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament 4 times. Liberty has also won a Big South record 6 straight regular season titles. Pinder was named the 2012 Big South Coach of the Year.
Caroline Douglas was named both Big South Freshman of the Year and Big South Player of the Year marking the first athlete in conference history to do so.
Becca Haraf was named the Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year.
The Lady Flames’ season came to end when they fell to Minnesota 3-0 in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament. Liberty finished the season 25-8.
