The Flames were a perfect 4-0 for a second straight week as Liberty has now won eight straight. Liberty also got off to a 3-0 start in conference play and shutout out North Alabama in all three games over the weekend.
TUESDAY: LIBERTY 8, NO. 18 NORTH CAROLINA 7
First baseman Logan Mathieu capped a four-run fourth inning with a three-run home run, helping the Flames past No. 18 North Carolina Tar Heels at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Liberty jumped out to a 7-4 lead thanks to the two-out rally in the fourth inning. It was Mathieu’s team-leading fourth home run of the season.
Second baseman Will Wagner had three hits, drove in two runs, and scored a run. Left fielder Aaron Anderson continues his strong play with two doubles and two RBIs, including a double and RBI in the 7th inning to give Liberty an 8-5 lead down the stretch.
Relievers Mason Fluharty, Tyler Germanowski, and Landon Riley combined to hold Liberty’s one-run lead over the final two innings to close out the victory. David Erickson improved his record to 3-0 on the season after allowing two runs on three hits over 3 1/3 innings of relief.
FRIDAY: LIBERTY 4, NORTH ALABAMA 0
Trevor DeLaite pitched a one-hit, complete game shutout as the Flames opened conference play with a win at Liberty Baseball Stadium on Friday. He struck out five and walked two while not allowing a runner past second base in his first ever start at Liberty’s home field.
Third baseman Trey McDyre had a game high three hits with two RBIs and one run scored. The game was scoreless through five innings before the Flames scored three in the bottom of the 6th, all the insurance DeLaite need to pick up the win.
SATURDAY: LIBERTY 7, NORTH ALABAMA 0
Following up DeLaite’s strong performance on Friday, Mason Meyer got the ball and pitched 6 innings, allowing just 2 hits as the Flames blanked the Lions for a second straight game. David Erickson and Nick Willard came on in relief and pitched 3 innings of without allowing a hit.
Jake Wilson singled in the 4th, scoring Will Wagner as the Flames got on the board first. Liberty would add another run in the 5th, two in the 6th, and 3 in the 8th. Wagner led the team with 2 hits while Jaylen Guy drove in three runs.
SUNDAY: LIBERTY 6, NORTH ALABAMA 0
The Flames completely dominated the Lions in the three games in Lynchburg over the weekend. For the second straight week, freshman Trey Gibson had his best outing as he pitched 6 scoreless innings, striking out 10 and allowing just 1 hit. Aaron Anderson had 2 hits and 2 RBIs in Sunday’s win as the Flames open up 3-0 in conference play.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: TREY MCDYRE
In Friday’s win, third baseman Trey McDyre had three hits, one of which was a double, while driving in 2 runs and scoring another. In the four games this week, McDyre was 6 for 15 at the plate with 2 doubles, 4 runs, and 4 RBIs.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: TREVOR DELAITE
The transfer from Maine has been as good as anyone on the mound for the Flames this season. He pitched a complete game, 1-hit shutout to set the tone for the weekend series against UNA on Friday. DeLaite struck out five and walked two while not allowing a runner past second base in his first ever start at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
On the season, DeLaite has a 2.28 ERA with a 2-1 record in 23.2 innings pitched. He’s allowed 12 hits with 23 strikeouts and just six walks.

Liberty welcomes the Tar Heels to Lynchburg as the two will tango once again on Tuesday afternoon from Liberty Baseball Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4 pm and will be televised on ESPN+.
The Flames will then have a three-game series against VCU – Friday at 4 pm and Sunday at 2 pm in Richmond with Saturday’s game scheduled for 2 pm in Lynchburg.
