After dropping two during the midweek at No. 10 Clemson, Liberty responded with four wins over Princeton at Liberty Baseball Stadium. The Flames improve to 15-6 on the season and 11-2 at home with seven straight wins at home.

TUESDAY: #10 CLEMSON 6, LIBERTY 4

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead and were able to hold off an 8th inning rally from the Flames to snap Liberty’s four-game winning streak. Trailing 6-2 in the top of the 8th, Liberty plated two runs on a single by Cal Early and a fielder’s choice by Michael Robertson. The Flames brought the go ahead run to the plate to hit in the e inning with two outs and runners on the corners, but the Tigers were able to end the threat to preserve the Clemson advantage. Liberty got on the scoreboard first on a solo home run by Camden Troyer, who played his freshman season at Clemson, in the top of the 2nd inning only to see Clemson answer with four runs in the bottom of the inning on two two-run home runs, both coming with two outs, to take a 4-1 lead. The Tigers added single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to extend their lead to 6-1 before the Flames rallied.

Riley DeCandido joined Troyer with two hits in the game. Josh Swink started for the Flames and took the loss. He gave up five runs, four earned, on four hits over two innings. He struck out one and walked two. Liberty’s four relievers held Clemson to one run on two hits over the final six innings. Liberty dropped its first midweek game of the season, entering the contest 3-0 in midweek games.

WEDNESDAY: #10 CLEMSON 8, LIBERTY 2

Clemson led from the start and eased to the win on Wednesday. Josh Plano connected for a three-run home run in the bottom of the first and t hen the Clemson pitching staff held Liberty in check at the plate throughout the game. With the score 4-1, the Flames loaded the bases with one out in the 5th, but Clemson reliever Nathan Dvorsky entered the game and retired the next two batters to end the threat. Liberty catcher Tuckre Moore belted a solo home run in the 9th, his third homer of the season.

Seven Liberty pitchers combined to strikeout 8 and walk 10. Starter Caleb Lingenfelter takes the loss. He allowed three runs on two hits over the first two innings while striking out two and walking one. The Tigers improved to 12-0 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium this year while Liberty has lost five straight to the Tigers and has not won at Kingsmore Stadium since 2014.

FRIDAY: LIBERTY 6, PRINCETON 4

Trailing 4-2, the Flames scored four runs in the bottom of the 8th for the come from behind victory over the Princeton Tigers to open a four-game series. Held to two runs on three hits through the first seven innings, Liberty erupted in the 8th. Jaxon Sorenson’s RBI single moved Liberty to within one at 4-3, and two batters later and runners at the corners, Camden Troyer ripped a one-out double down the left field line to give the Flames the lead. Troyer had two hits and drove in three runs for the Flames. He was joined by Sorenson who also had two hits.

Liberty reliever Jack Frankel improves to 3-1 on the season. The second of three Flames to pitch in the game, he allowed two runs on two hits over four innings while striking out three and not issuing a free pass. Tyler August pitched a scoreless 9th for the Flames to record his third save of the season. He did not allow a walk and struck out two in the first ever meeting between the two programs.

SATURDAY GAME 1: LIBERTY 6, PRINCETON 5

Starting pitcher Ben Blair and relievers Joseph Webb and Garrett McLaughlin combined to hold an early Liberty lead. The Flames erupted with five runs in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Anderson Fulk, to take a 6-0 advantage. McLaughlin retired the lone batter he faced with the tying run on second base in the 9th inning to close out the victory for the Flames. Cal Early had two hits and an RBI. Tanner Marsh had two hits, one a triple, and scored a run. Troyer joined him with two hits, a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Blair improves his record to 4-0 on the year. The right hander gave up three runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings while striking out seven and walking two. He leads CUSA with 28.2 innings pitched and is second in the conference with a 1.88 ERA. Webb gave up two runs on four hits over three innings.

SATURDAY GAME 2: LIBERTY 3, PRINCETON 0

Starting pitcher Caleb Lingenfelter and relievers Josh Swink and Josh McCusker combined to pitch the second shutout of the season for the Flames. The trio held the Tigers to two hits, striking out 10 and walking two. Finishing a strong day in the two games, Cal Early went 3 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored as he had five hits in the double header. Nick Barone had two hits and an RBI. Lingenfelter records his first win of 2025. He pitched four scoreless innings, yielding just one hit. McCusker earned his first save of his collegiate career with three scoreless innings.

SUNDAY: LIBERTY 19, PRINCETON 1

Liberty clobbered Princeton in the series finale to complete a sweep of the four-game series. Camden Troyer had three hits, a season-high 5 RBI and two runs scored for the Flames. Nick Barone had three hits and belted his 6th home run of the season. He had three RBI and three runs scored. Michael Robertson hit his first home run as a Flame while Anderson Fulk connected on his second home run in as many days. Liberty starter Cooper Harrington recorded his first collegiate victory. The freshman pitched four scoreless innings while striking out two and walking one. The FLames used six pitchers in the contest. They combined to strike out 10 and walk three.

Up Next: The Flames take on No. 14 Wake Forest on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Lynchburg before opening conference play. Liberty plays host to New Mexico State in the CUSA opening series this weekend. The Aggies and Flames are scheduled to meet Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.
