The transfer portal is back open this week for men’s basketball and a countless number of players have entered the portal across the country. Liberty has not been immune to this over the years, including this current cycle where Kai Yu, Bryson Spell, and Will Gibson have entered the portal. The Flames have also had a few notable transfers leave in recent years, here’s a quick update on where they have landed:

Joseph Venzant

Transferring closer to home this season to play at Abilene Christian, Venzant started 5 of 6 games he played in while averaging 20.5 minutes, 2.2 points, and 3.7 rebounds per game before suffering a season ending injury.

Brody Peebles

Peebles transferred to Belmont this past season. He started 7 of 33 games he played in while averaging 16.8 minutes, 7.8 points, and shooting 44.7% from the field and 38.5% from three. Belmont went 22-11 and 13-7 this past season in the Missouri Valley, falling to Drake in the conference tournament.

Jaylen Davis

After one year at Liberty where he redshirted, Davis transferred to Division II Cedarville this past season, playing for former Liberty associate head coach Rob Jones. Davis played in 29 games, starting 11. He averaged 27.3 minutes, 14.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 42.4% from the field and 40.8% from three.

Ben Southerland

Southerland transferred to Wright State this past season where he played just 6 minutes in 4 games, and he is now back in the transfer portal.

Isiah Warfield

Warfield transferred to Howard a year ago where he played the 2023-24 season. A key member of the MEAC Champions, Howard and Warfield advanced to the NCAA Tournament where they lost to Wagner, 71-68, in the First Four. Warfield played in 21 games and started 16 for the Bison. He averaged 25.8 minutes, 7.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while shooting 41.9% from the field and 32.7% from three. This past year, Warfield again entered the transfer portal where he ended up at Division II Gannon. He started in 4 games and played in 5, averaging 18.8 minutes, 4.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 36.4% from the field and 22.2% from three.

Jonathan Jackson

Jackson transferred to Division II University of Texas at Tyler. He played and started in six games where he averaged 32.2 minutes, 12.0 points, and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 40% from three. He then transferred to Division II Midwestern State for this past season. He started 19 and played in 28 games while averaging 23.5 minutes, 7.9 points, and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 45.1% from the field and 39.7% from three.

DJ Moore

The former Liberty point guard transferred to NAIA Indiana Wesleyan. After appearing in just five games during the 2022-23 season, Moore played in 33 games a year ago including 14 starts. He averaged 19.1 minutes, 6.3 points, and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 50% from three. This past season, Moore played in 24 games while starting 19. He averaged 23.1 minutes, 8.0 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting 47.8% from the field and 42.5% from three.

Drake Dobbs

Dobbs transferred back closer to home where he has played for Division I Saint Thomas the past three seasons. This past year, he started 33 games out of the 34 total he played in, averaging 28.9 minutes, 11.6 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 51.9% from the field and 43.4% from three. He helped lead the Tommies to a 24-10 overall record and 12-4 mark in the Summit while advancing to the Summit League championship game before falling to Nebraska Omaha, 85-75.
