Coming off wins over Virginia Tech and North Florida, Liberty baseball sits atop the ASUN with a 5-1 conference record and a 21-6 overall record.
The win over Virginia Tech moved Liberty to 5-0 in ACC play. A trio of Flames pitchers, Mason Meyer, Garret Price and Landon Riley scattered one run on five hits over all nine innings. The Flames offense tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh inning to compliment a four-run fifth inning and pace the Flames to an easy 6-1 win.
In Friday’s game at North Florida, Liberty picked up where it left off in Blacksburg. The Flames took the first game 4-3, the second game 8-2, and completed the sweep Sunday with a 6-2 victory.
As a team, Liberty is batting .253 on the season. Brandon Rohrer paces the team with a .365 average followed by Will Wagner, who is hitting .320. Freshman Jaylen Guy and Jonathan Embry are batting .295 and .290, respectively.
The Flames pitching staff has also been solid this year. The team’s four-man rotation, comprised of Meyer, Andrew McInvale, Noah Skirrow and Joseph Adametz, has a combined ERA of 3.64.
Relievers Garret Price and Evan Brabrand have been exceptional. Over 13 appearances, Price has an ERA of 0.88 and 32 strikeouts. Brabrand hasn’t surrendered a run through 25 innings of work. He’s struck out 37 and walked four.
The Flames will travel to Elon on Wednesday ahead of a weekend series at North Alabama. First pitch for Wednesday’s game is scheduled for 5:00.
