Following the conclusion of the winter athletic season, Liberty is currently ranked No. 122 in the country in the Learfield College Directors’ Cup standings, a ranking of the top collegiate athletic departments in the country.
After receiving 95 points from three different teams that participated in the fall – Field Hockey, Women’s Soccer and Football – the Flames did not receive any points from the winter sports.
Liberty’s field hockey team finished as the runner-up in the Big East championship but still managed to advance to the NCAA Tournament, falling in the first round. This finish was good for 45 points. The football team received 25 points after winning thirteen games during 2023, winning the CUSA Championship, and advancing to the Fiesta Bowl. The women’s soccer team received 25 points after winning the CUSA Championship before falling in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Being ranked at No. 122, Liberty is the third highest ranked Conference team. The Flames are ranked behind No. 98 Jacksonville State and No. 103 Western Kentucky. Sam Houston checks in at No. 130, Louisiana Tech is No. 155, FIU and Middle Tennessee are tied at No. 170, and New Mexico State ranks No. 222, to round out the CUSA teams that have received points through the winter season.
Stanford is the national leader following the winter sports. They are followed in the standings by Texas, North Carolina, Michigan, Penn State, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Alabama.
Liberty Athletics continues to see its national brand lifted across all sports, as the Flames have posted a three straight top 100 finish following the completion of the 2022-23 Athletics season when the Flames finished at No. 98. Over the prior two years, Liberty finished with program best ever finishes in the final College Directors’ Cup Standings. Following the 2020-21 athletic year, the Flames finished at No. 72 and No. 74 following the 2021-22 season.
