Following the conclusion of the fall athletic season, Liberty is currently ranked No. 39 in the country in the Learfield College Directors’ Cup standings, a ranking of the top collegiate athletic departments in the country.
The Flames received points from three different teams that participated in the fall, highlighted by Field Hockey’s 90 points for it’s national runner-up finish. Football received 45 points after winning 8 games and the 2021 Lending Tree Bowl, and Women’s Cross Country received 27 points for its 32nd national finish.
Being ranked at No. 39, Liberty is the 8th highest non-Power Five team in the standings following the fall. The Flames are also the highest ranked school in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia Tech checked in at No. 51, while Virginia is No. 54, James Madison is No. 78, and Old Dominion is No. 118.
BYU is the national leader following the fall sports. They are followed in the standings by Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, North Carolina, Washington, Arkansas, Florida State, and Pittsburgh.
Last year, Liberty finished No. 72 in the final 2020-21 Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup standings. Prior to last year’s finish, Liberty’s previous best Directors’ Cup ranking was No. 82 following the 2001-02 athletics season and No. 96 following the 2011-12 athletics campaign.
