Following the conclusion of the fall athletic season, Liberty is currently ranked No. 69 in the country in the Learfield College Directors’ Cup standings, a ranking of the top collegiate athletic departments in the country.
The Flames received points from three different teams that participated in the fall, Field Hockey, Women’s Soccer and Football.
Liberty’s field hockey team finished as the runner-up in the Big East championship but still managed to advance to the NCAA Tournament, falling in the first round. This finish was good for 45 points.
The football team received 25 points after winning thirteen games during 2023, winning the CUSA Championship, and advancing to the Fiesta Bowl.
The women’s soccer team received 25 points after winning the CUSA Championship before falling in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Being ranked at No. 69, Liberty is the highest ranked Conference team. The Flames are tied with Western Kentucky with 95 points. Liberty and the Hilltoppers check in ahead of No. 117 FIU and Jacksonville State and New Mexico State who are both ranked at No. 159.
North Carolina is the national leader following the fall sports. They are followed in the standings by Stanford, Texas, Notre Dame, Tennessee, BYU, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Penn State, and Virginia.
Liberty Athletics continues to see its national brand lifted across all sports, as the Flames have posted a third straight top 100 finish in the final 2022-23 Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup standings, for the first time in school history. Liberty finished last season at No. 98, the 5th best finish in school history in the annual listing that ranks the top collegiate athletic departments across the country.
Over the prior two years, Liberty finished with program best ever finishes in the final College Directors’ Cup Standings. Following the 2020-21 athletic year, the Flames finished at No. 72 and No. 74 following the 2021-22 season.
