Liberty and Coastal Carolina will renew their once heated Big South football rivalry at the FBS level, as the two athletics departments announced a home-and-home football series earlier today. The Flames will return to Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C., on Sept. 9, 2023. The Chanticleers will come to Williams Stadium in Lynchburg on Aug. 31 to open the 2024 season.
The overall series record between the Flames and Chanticleers is knotted at 7 games a piece, with Coastal winning the last meeting in 2016. Coastal is now a member of the Sun Belt Conference where they finished 3-9 overall and 2-6 in conference play in 2017, their first year as an FBS and Sun Belt member.
This is the 4th scheduled game announced for 2023, joining previously announced matchups with Bowling Green, Buffalo, and Marshall. For 2024, Liberty has announced just one other game, an October 5th meeting in Lynchburg against Marshall.
