Liberty and East Tennessee State were scheduled to meet on the football field during the 2025 season, but that game has been moved to the 2029 season, according to a copy of the contract received by ASOR.
According to the amended contract, the Flames were originally scheduled to play the FCS team on October 28, 2023 and October 25, 2025 at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia. The 2023 game has since been canceled while the 2025 game has now been changed to September 8, 2029. Liberty will pay ETSU $425,000 in a guarantee for the game, according to the contract.
With this change, Liberty has one opening in its non-conference schedule for the 2025 season. The Flames are currently scheduled to play at Army on Sept. 20, at Old Dominion on Sept. 27, and host UMass on Nov. 1.
The 2029 non-conference schedule is now full. The Flames are slated to open that season on Sept. 1 at Virginia Tech and will now host ETSU the following week. Liberty also has a game scheduled at East Carolina on Sept. 22 and at home against Coastal Carolina on Sept. 29.
