As FlamesNation reported last week, Williams Stadium Expansion Phase 2 is set to begin at the conclusion of the 2012 football season. However, that isn’t the only growth in athletic facilities happening on campus. Current major projects include a new basketball practice facility, and a new baseball stadium, with a new softball stadium also in the works.  Also in progress is a resurfacing of the track.  Liberty Athletic Director Jeff Barber has given us some great photos on his Twitter feed (@LUADJeff) of both the baseball stadium and basketball practice facility being constructed.

Baseball Stadium

The new stadium, located behind Osborne Stadium (soccer/track) will greatly expand the seating capacity, and offer fans better site lines and amenities.  The new facility will send a strong message about Liberty’s intentions to compete at the FBS level.

Basketball Practice Facility

The new practice facility, located behind the Vines Center will give the Flames greater practice flexibility, as well as top notch facilities to compete at the highest level.  The building will give both the men’s and women’s teams 1.5 courts each to practice on.

Matthes-Hopkins Track Resurfacing

Perhaps the most successful athletic program on campus, track and field, is getting a much deserved upgrade to their facility as well.  Following the recent addition of the Luurtsema Center to the track and field complex, the new surface promises to give the track athletes a top notch place to practice and compete.
