Liberty’s fall sports are officially underway all over campus, and we will provide weekly updates on all of the teams throughout the semester.

CROSS COUNTRY

The Liberty women’s cross country team defeated a trio of nationally-ranked opponents (No. 15 Tennessee, No. 22 Ole Miss, and No. 29 Arkansas) on its way to a 21st place finish at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals women’s 6K. The Flames came in 12th in the men’s 8K at the site of next month’s NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.

The Liberty women’s cross country B team had a team victory at the Roanoke XC Invitational.

Next up for Liberty will be the 2024 CUSA Cross Country Championships. The event will take place on Nov. 2 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama.

FIELD HOCKEY (9-5, 3-2 Big East)

Liberty used a second half scoring barrage to top visiting Quinnipiac, 9-0, on Friday in a Big East match. Lou Combrinck notched her first career three goal game while freshman Josefina Tomasi recorded her first career two goal game.

On Sunday, Martu Cian scored the game winning goal in overtime on Senior Day to lift the Lady Flames to a 2-1 victory over visiting Longwood. Liberty has now won four straight matches.

Liberty plays at Connecticut on Friday at 1 p.m. and then steps out of conference to play at JMU on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (12-1-4, 4-1-2 CUSA)

Liberty earned a 0-0 draw at Western Kentucky to extend their unbeaten streak in CUSA play to five games. The Lady Flames recorded its ninth shutout of the season.

Liberty returns home for its first of a final two home contests on Sunday. The Lady Flames welcome Middle Tennessee to Osborne Stadium at 1 p.m.

MEN’S SOCCER (7-5-1, 5-2 OVC)

Liberty s hut out Eastern Illinois 2-0 in an OVC match at Osborne Stadium. The Flames jumped into the learly lead as Luke Eberle buried a penalty kick less than three minutes into the contest. Gabe Findley added a goal later in the first half for a 2-0 advantage.

On Sunday, the Flames erupted for five goals and recorded their fifth shutout of the season, downing Southern Indiana, 5-0. OVC leading goal scorer Michael Huss netted his ninth and 10th goals of 2024 and assisted on two others in the contest.

Liberty continues conference play on Friday, playing at Lindenwood in St. Charles, Missouri at 8 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL (11-9, 5-3 CUSA)

The Lady Flames were swept in three sets against Middle Tennessee at Liberty Arena on Friday night. The Blue Raiders would win a fourth straight set in Saturday’s contest before Liberty came roaring back to win three straight sets and win the match in four sets, earning a split on the weekend.

Liberty will play four straight road matches beginning Friday and Saturday at New Mexico State. The Lady Flames will then head to Miami for two rescheduled contest from earlier this season, to play FIU on Tuesday and Wednesday.
