Liberty’s fall sports are officially underway all over campus, and we will provide weekly updates on all of the teams throughout the semester.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Liberty women’s cross country team defeated a trio of nationally-ranked opponents (No. 15 Tennessee, No. 22 Ole Miss, and No. 29 Arkansas) on its way to a 21st place finish at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals women’s 6K. The Flames came in 12th in the men’s 8K at the site of next month’s NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
The Liberty women’s cross country B team had a team victory at the Roanoke XC Invitational.
Next up for Liberty will be the 2024 CUSA Cross Country Championships. The event will take place on Nov. 2 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama.
FIELD HOCKEY (9-7, 3-3 Big East)
Connecticut’s Juul Sauer scored less than a minute into overtime, propelling the Huskies to a 2-1 victory over Liberty on Friday afternoon. The loss snapped Liberty’s six game winning streak against UConn, dating back to the 2021 spring season. It also ends a four game winning streak for Liberty.
In a non-conference contest Tuesday afternoon, the Flames fell to James Madison, 3-2. Liberty’s Tuti Dell Anna led the way for the offense with two goals as she has a team-high 10 goals on the season.
The Lady Flames will conclude the regular season on Friday against Georgetown in a home match to begin at 3 p.m.
WOMEN’S SOCCER (13-1-4, 5-1-2 CUSA)
Halle Engle scored both goals in a 2-1 triumph for Liberty at home against Middle Tennessee. With the contest tied at 1 and under 10 minutes remaining, Engle broke the tie with a perfect strike from 20 yards out that bounced off the crossbar to give the Flames the lead. Liberty is right in the mix with FIU and New Mexico State at the top of the conference standings.
The regular season concludes for the Lady Flames at home on Friday night at 6 p.m. against Kennesaw State.
MEN’S SOCCER (7-6-2, 5-3-1 OVC)

Liberty concludes the regular season on Sunday at home against Incarnate Word at noon.
VOLLEYBALL (11-13, 5-7 CUSA)
It was a tough trip to Las Cruces, New Mexico for Liberty, falling to the Aggies in straight sets on both Friday and Saturday.
In two made up contests that were cancelled due to a pending hurricane, FIU defeated Liberty in four sets on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Flames won the first two sets before dropping three straight and the match to the Panthers.
The Lady Flames will return to Liberty Arena this weekend to host Sam Houston on Friday at 6 p.m. and on Saturday at 1 p.m.
