The fall sports athletic calendar is underway with several Liberty teams in action. We will provide weekly updates on all of Liberty’s NCAA Division I teams competing this fall.
CROSS COUNTRY
Liberty’s Cali Doan and Nicholas Kiprotich each earned all-region medals at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships last Friday. The men and women both placed 9th in the final team standings.
FIELD HOCKEY (12-8, 6-1)
No. 2 Maryland scored on a penalty stroke in double overtime, lifting the Terrapins to a 2-1 win over No. 13 Liberty in the NCAA Field Hockey Championship last Friday. The season comes to an end, but it was a strong performance against a very good opponent on the road. The Lady Flames took a 1-0 lead at the 34:28 mark before Maryland tied it up later in the quarter.
WOMEN’S SOCCER (14-3-4, 8-0-2)
The No. 1 seed Lady Flames fell to No. 2 FGCU in penalty kicks, 4-3, in the ASUN Championship. Liberty took a 1-0 advantage in the first half. The Eagles would tie the match during the 85th minute, eventually sending the game to penalty kicks after two scoreless overtime periods. The season comes to an end in disappointing fashion, but it was a tremendous campaign for the Lady Flames.
MEN’S SOCCER (3-6-6, 1-4-3)
Liberty lost to North Florida, 1-0, on Friday in Jacksonville and then played to a 2-2 tie at Queens on Tuesday. This brings to an end a disappointing season as the Flames are not one of the six teams that qualified for the ASUN Tournament.
VOLLEYBALL (21-7, 14-2)
Liberty won in straight sets against Eastern Kentucky and Bellarmine over the weekend, to conclude the regular season. The Lady Flames have won 10 straight games entering this week’s ASUN Volleyball Tournament. Liberty, the regular season champion, will take on No. 8 seed Stetson on Thursday at 8 p.m. in Nashville. The Semifinals will be played on Friday at 8 p.m. and the championship on Saturday at 8 p.m.
