The fall sports athletic calendar is underway with several Liberty teams in action. We will provide weekly updates on all of Liberty’s NCAA Division I teams competing this fall.
CROSS COUNTRY
Liberty All-American Calli Doan successfully defended her women’s 5K individual title at the 2022 ASUN Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning. Both the Flames and the Lady Flames finished second in the team standings during Liberty’s final year in the ASUN.
The Lady Flames conclude their time int he ASUN with two team titles and three runner-up finishes. The men have recorded nine consecutive conference runner-up finishes, including all five years in the ASUN.
Liberty will now turn its attention to the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships, held Nov. 11, which will determine the team and individual qualifiers to the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
FIELD HOCKEY (10-7, 6-1)
The No. 1 seed for the upcoming Big East Championship came down to a shootout, with No. 14 Old Dominion edging No. 16 Liberty, 2-1, in the shootout on Friday afternoon. This is the Lady Flames’ first loss in Big East regular season in its last 17 conference matches. The two teams earn a share of the Big East regular season title.
No. 2 seed Liberty will meet No. 3 seed UConn in the semifinals on Friday at 4 p.m.
WOMEN’S SOCCER (14-3-3, 8-0-2)
The No. 1 seed Lady Flames opened ASUN play with a 3-0 shutout over No. 8 seed Jacksonville on Thursday afternoon. They followed that up with a win over Eastern Kentucky, 3-1, in the ASUN semifinals to advance to the championship game. With the win, Liberty has extended its program-record unbeaten streak to 12 consecutive games, advancing to its 12th conference championship game in program history. The Lady Flames will host No. 2 seed FGCU in the title game on Friday with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
MEN’S SOCCER (3-6-6, 1-4-3)
Liberty lost to North Florida, 1-0, on Friday in Jacksonville and then played to a 2-2 tie at Queens on Tuesday. This brings to an end a disappointing season as the Flames are not one of the six teams that qualified for the ASUN Tournament.
VOLLEYBALL (17-7, 10-2)
Liberty defeated Austin Peay in four sets Friday, and swept Lipscomb on Sunday afternoon. With the wins, Liberty is now in first place in the ASUN heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. The Lady Flames will take on North Alabama Friday and Central Arkansas on Sunday, both on the road.
