Liberty’s fall sports are officially underway all over campus, and we will provide weekly updates on all of the teams throughout the semester.

CROSS COUNTRY

Liberty’s men’s cross country team is the preseason favorite to win CUSA while the women were picked to finish 2nd. Liberty will open the 2023 campaign with a visit to the Roger Milliken Center. The Flames and Lady Flames will preview the course which will play host to the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships two months later.

FIELD HOCKEY (3-0)

No. 14 Liberty field hockey opened the season last Friday with a 2-0 win over Kent State, and on Sunday, the Lady Flames bested Indiana, 2-1, in overtime. Reagan Underwood scored the game winner against the Hoosiers in the 61st minute. Liberty hit the road on Tuesday for the first time this season to take on No. 6 Virginia in Charlottesville. The Flames jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for the 3-1 victory to improve to 3-0. Liberty will host American on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (4-0)

The Lady Flames have had a strong start to their 2023 season. Liberty defeated VCU, 2-1, in the season opener, before knocking off Delaware, 1-0. This past weekend, Liberty beat Tennessee Tech, 2-0, and UNCW 3-0 on Sunday in Wilmington. Liberty looks to remain unbeaten when it travels to Farmville, Va. to take on Longwood (1-1-1) on Thursday. The match is set to kick off at 6 p.m. at the Longwood Athletics Complex.

MEN’S SOCCER (2-0)

Michael Huss scored with just 32 seconds remaining in regulation to propel Liberty to a 3-2 win over Saint Peters last Thursday evening in the season opener. On Monday, the Flames dispatched Belmont Abbey, 3-1, to move to 2-0 on the early season. Liberty will hit the road this weekend to take on UMBC on Friday at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the Flames will face Navy at 1 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL (3-0)

The volleyball team started the year with a 3-0 sweep of Bucknell on Friday evening and then swept both Gardner-Webb and Stony Brook 3-0 on Saturday at Liberty Arena. The Lady Flames have now started out 3-0 for the second time in the last three seasons. Liberty will now play each of its next 11 matches away from Lynchburg. This weekend, the Lady Flames will play at the Black Knights Invitational in West Point, New York against High Point, Army, and Yale.
