The fall sports athletic calendar is underway with several Liberty teams in action. We will provide weekly updates on all of Liberty’s NCAA Division I teams competing this fall.
CROSS COUNTRY
Liberty’s first road meet of the 2022 cross country season was a success a week ago at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational. The Flames and Lady Flames swept the men’s and women’s team and individual championships, with Nicholas Kiprotich and Calli Doan crossing the line first in the men’s 8K and women’s 6K, respectively. Liberty will compete in two different meets on Sept. 30. The Flames’ top men’s and women’s runners will travel to Notre Dame, Indiana for the Joe Piane Invitational. Another group of Lady Flames will race in the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
FIELD HOCKEY (6-3, 2-0)
The Lady Flames got a huge win in conference play on Friday afternoon, defeating No. 9 UConn, 4-0, in Storrs, Connecticut. Liberty then returned home and took care of business without a letdown on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout of Longwood. This week, Liberty has two home contests, taking on Quinnipiac in a conference match on Friday at 2 p.m. and then hosting North Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m.
WOMEN’S SOCCER (7-3-2, 3-0-1)
Liberty has won three straight matches and remain unbeaten in conference play. The Lady Flames defeated Jacksonville State, 1-0, on Thursday and Kennesaw State, 2-0, on Sunday. Both matches were on the road as Liberty continues their hot play. This week, Liberty is at home to take on Central Arkansas on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. before playing host to North Alabama on Sunday at 1 p.m.
MEN’S SOCCER (2-3-3, 1-2)
Liberty lost at FGCU on Friday night, 2-1, to drop a second consecutive conference match. On Tuesday, the men were unable to hold onto a 1-0 lead in the second half, ending in a 1-1 draw in Farmville against Longwood. This week, the Flames play host to Stetson on Saturday at 6 p.m.
VOLLEYBALL (9-5, 2-0)
The Lady Flames opened conference play with two, 3-0, sweeps of Queens over the weekend, first on Friday night in Lynchburg and then on Sunday afternoon in Charlotte. Liberty hosts Kennesaw State Friday night at 6 p.m. and Jacksonville State on Saturday at 6 p.m.
