The ASUN Conference has named Liberty and Florida Gulf Coast co-champions for the 2020 ASUN Women’s Basketball Championship.
The Lady Flames and FGCU had advanced to the conference tournament championship game before it was unable to be played due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Liberty (20-11) was the 3-seed in the ASUN Tournament and advanced to the tournament championship game for the second consecutive season after defeating 6-seed Kennesaw State and 2-seed North Alabama. The Lady Flames were set to travel to No. 1 seed FGCU on March 15 for a rematch of the 2019 ASUN title game, but the contest was cancelled.
This is Liberty’s first ASUN Championship in its second season in the league. The Lady Flames have now captured 18 conference tournament titles overall, with the first 17 coming as members of the Big South Conference, most recently in 2018.
Liberty’s Emily Lytle and Asia Todd were named to the ASUN Women’s Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team, alongside FGCU’s Davion Wingate and Ashli O’Neal, North Alabama’s Ivy Wallen, and North Florida’s Jazz Bond.
