Liberty guard Joseph Venzant is entering the transfer portal. The 6’3″ guard and native of Midland, Texas has one year of eligibility remaining.
Venzant, one of the Flames’ top defenders during his career in Lynchburg, averaged 5.2 points and 6.2 rebounds this season while shooting 58.9% from the field. He was 4 of 16 from three this past season while starting 29 of 31 games played. Venzant was a starter at Liberty all three years, starting 96 of 100 games played.
Venzant started all 36 games during the 2022-23 season, averaging 4.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, which was good for second on the team. He also led the squad with 64 offensive rebounds while finishing the year with 10 or more rebounds four times on the season including a season high 13. Venzant shot 62.5% from the field on the season.
As a true freshman, Venzant started the third game of his collegiate career and would start 31 straight to finish the season. He averaged 3.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game during his first season with the Flames.
Venzant was ranked as a three-star prospect by Rivals out of high school, also ranked as the No. 51 shooting guard in the country for his class. Venzant was a 2021 Texas 6A All-State selection and scored 2,756 points during his career at Midland Christian where he was a three-year starter and two-year captain. He averaged 21.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game in high school.
Venzant joins Brody Peebles, Ben Southerland, and Jaylen Davis who have entered the portal from Liberty so far this month. The Flames currently have four available scholarships for next season.
