The Flames got a commitment from its first guard of the 2014 basketball recruiting class from Braxton Bonds. Bonds is a 6’1″ 170 pound point guard from Nashville, Tennessee and Christ Presbyterian Academy. He had offers from Boston University, Middle Tennessee State, Radford, LSU, and Miami (OH). Bonds is rated as 3 star prospect on Scout. Braxton is former MLB slugger Barry Bonds’ nephew.
Bonds spoke with Jamie Shaw from PhenomHoopReport following his commitment and said, “God gave me peace about what school is right for me. I fit in there pretty well, they run the same type of offense that we run at CPA, which is solid in transition.” He went further in talking positively on his relationship with the coaches and the campus.
Bonds helped lead Christ Presbyterian Academy to a 37-2 overall record in 2012-13. The Lions finished 19-0 in district play and has won the past 2 Class AA basketball titles in Tennessee. Braxton averaged 11.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.1 steals per game last season.
Braxton joins Ezra Talbert, Stavian Allen, AC Reid, and Evan Maxwell in Liberty’s class of 2014 which is shaping up to be one of the best in recent history. Coach Layer and his staff still have at least one more spot in the class to fill.
