Update: Probert has announced that he will be transferring to Iowa State in the Big 12.
Liberty kicker Alex Probert has entered the transfer portal, as first reported by Woody Wommack. He will be a graduate transfer and have one season of eligibility remaining. Probert confirmed the news Monday night with an announcement stating, in part, that he is hopeful to be “closer to my family for my last season of eligibility.”
As a redshirt-junior this past season, Probert made 13-of-19 field goals with a long of 51. He also made 50-of-53 PATs and 51 of his 79 kickoffs resulted in a touchback. Probert was expected to be Liberty’s starting kicker again in 2020.
He played in just 4 games in 2018 due to a preseason injury and was able to redshirt that season. In 2017, Probert was a Big South second-team all-conference selection as he led the conference in scoring by a kicker. He made 14 field goals and 38 extra points. As a true freshman, he was a Jerry Rice Award finalist (top freshman FCS player in the country) as he competed in all 11 games at kicker, finishing the season 15-of-19 on field goals and 33-of-35 on PATs.
For his Liberty career, Probert made 46-of-63 field goals and 140-of-150 PATs. He is third on Liberty’s all-time scoring list with 275 points. He is also third in career field goals made (46) and career PATs made (140).
Jason Stricker, part of the 2019 signing class, is the only other kicker on the roster currently. From Marvin Ridge High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, Stricker redshirted in 2019. He was a four-year varsity starter at both kicker and punter in high school and received offers from Air Force, Army, Charlotte, Maryland, Navy, TCU, UCF, and Virginia.
