Liberty football has opened as a 6-point favorite against Troy, as Week 2 opening lines were announced on Sunday. The Flames (1-0) will travel to Troy, Alabama to face the Trojans (1-0) on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Following each team’s first game of the season, ESPN’s Matchup Predictor gives Troy a 77.4% chance at winning the game.
The Flames and Trojans met just a couple seasons ago in Lynchburg with Liberty pulling the upset over Troy, 22-16, on Oct. 13, 2018. It was arguably Liberty’s best win to that point as an FBS team, although it was admittedly still during the team’s first year as an FBS member.
Liberty opened the season 1-0 for the second straight season following the team’s 48-7 win over Campbell on Saturday in front of 15,834 fans at Williams Stadium. With the win, the Flames have now set a program record for most consecutive wins at home with 12. The win was the seventh straight for Liberty over an FCS opponent since joining the FBS, as the Flames are now 7-0 against FCS opponents.
The competition takes a considerable step up this week as the Flames will face its first FBS opponent of the season in Troy. The Trojans opened up their season with a win on Saturday night over Southern, another FCS opponent, 55-3. Troy had four interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, and held Southern to just 189 yards of offense.
Saturday’s game will be carried on ESPN+ with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST from Veterans Memorial Stadium.
