Liberty has picked up a commitment from Auburn defensive tackle Jay Hardy, he announced on his Instagram page. Hardy is a former top 100 national prospect and four-star rated recruit out of high school, according to 247Sports. He will be immediately eligible and has four years of eligibility remaining.
The 6’4″, 280 pound athlete entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason. He was one of the highest rated prospects in Auburn’s 2020 recruiting class out of Chattanooga, Tennessee as he ranked No. 13 nationally at his position. A leg injury slowed the start of his career in the SEC and limited him to only one game as a freshman, as he played in the Citrus Bowl this past January, not recording any stats.
In addition to Auburn, he had offers from a number of schools out of high school including Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Texas A&M, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.
Rivals rated Hardy as the No. 77 national prospect in his class as well as the No. 9 prospect at his position. The McCallie School product was also a four-star rated high school prospect by Rivals.
