With just a couple days until the December signing day, Liberty picked up a commitment from Jaylon Jimmerson, a transfer from Incarnate Word. He will be immediately eligible and have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Jimmerson played his true freshman season for the FCS school in Texas where he was named to the 2019 All-Southland Conference third-team and received 2019 HERO Sports Freshman All-America honorable mention honors. He played in 11 games while making two starts and finished third on the team with 55 tackles while recording 3 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Jimmerson led the team with 4 interceptions and had one pass breakup. He also played a role in the return game, returning 9 kickoffs for 187 yards.
He is originally from Pittsburg, Texas and Pittsburg high school where he played quarterback and corner his senior season. He threw for 2,594 yards and 23 touchdowns to go along with 1,260 rushing yards and an additional 23 scores. On the defensive side of the ball, Jimmerson recorded 101 tackles and 8 interceptions during his senior season. He also added two punt return touchdowns and had 50 total touchdowns as a senior.
Liberty corner back coach Rickey Hunley spent one season at Incarnate Word, in 2018, where he was the team’s safeties coach and recruiting coordinator as he helped the Cardinals complete their transition from Division II to FCS.
Still on the same mission, just doing it in a different jersey…#RiseWithUs#bEASTtexas#GodsPlan
